Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

As the Thanksgiving holiday draws near, the Dixon Police Department wishes our community a safe and joyful time. Increased travel and activities during this season call for heightened awareness regarding travel safety and home security. Here are some vital tips to ensure a secure and enjoyable holiday.

 Travel Safety:
 - Plan Ahead: Ensure your vehicle is well-maintained before your journey. Check tires, brakes, lights, and the battery.
 - Stay Alert: Long drives can be taxing. Take regular breaks, rotate drivers if possible, and avoid driving when tired.
 - Obey Traffic Laws: Follow speed limits and traffic signs, especially in dense holiday traffic.
 - No Drinking and Driving: If your celebration includes alcohol, designate a sober driver or use public transportation or a ride-sharing service.

 Home Security:
 - Lock Up: Before leaving, secure all doors, windows, pet doors, and garage doors.
 - Light It Up: Use timers on lights to make your house appear occupied. Outdoor motion-sensor lights are also effective.
 - Hold Your Mail: An overflowing mailbox signals an empty house. Consider pausing your mail if you're away for an extended period.
- Vacation Watch: Register for the Dixon Police Department's Vacation Watch at https://www.frontlinepss.com/dixonpolice to have officers periodically check your home while you're away.
 - Neighborhood Watch: Let a trusted neighbor know about your travel plans and ask them to watch your property. Report any unusual activities to the police.

For non-emergencies, reach out to us at 707-678-7070. In case of an emergency, dial 911.

Let's make this Thanksgiving safe and enjoyable for everyone in Dixon.

 Happy Thanksgiving!
