At the Dixon Police Department, it is our responsibility to keep you and your property safe. One way to do this is by taking preventive measures to deter criminal activity. Here are some crime prevention tips to protect your home and property:
- Lock all doors and windows when leaving your home, even if it's just for a short period of time.
- Install a home security system with motion detectors, cameras, and an alarm.
- Trim bushes and trees near your home to eliminate hiding places for burglars.
- Keep valuables, such as jewelry and electronics, out of sight from windows.
- Mark your property with your driver's license number or an identifying mark to make it easier to recover if stolen.
- Never leave a spare key outside your home. Instead, give one to a trusted neighbor or family member.
- Turn on lights, both inside and outside your home, when it gets dark to make it look like someone is home.
- If you're going on vacation, have a trusted friend or family member check on your home regularly and pick up your mail and newspaper.
Remember, preventing crime starts with taking proactive steps to protect your home and property. If you see any suspicious activity in your neighborhood, please don't hesitate to call us at 707-678-7070. We are here to keep you safe.
Stay safe!
